The first of the 3 T20Is was a very low scoring encounter with India going over the line easily at the end.
After winning the toss, Virat Kohli put Windies into bat and his decision was soon proved a good one when John Campbell holed out to deep midwicket on only the 2nd ball of the match. The condition got bad to worse for Windies as they lost 4 more wickets in the powerplay.
Half of the team was out in the powerplay and the recovery from that point was almost impossible. The 3 of the top five went for ducks and the responsibility was on Keiron Pollard and Carlos Braithwaite to pull the team out of the crisis to a respectable total.
Pollard was the only batsman who managed to reach double figures and thumped 4 sixes on his way to a 49-run innings.
Chasing 95 in 20 overs, India lost Dhawan in the 2nd over. But Rohit Sharma kept going until the 7th over, hitting boundaries. In the 7th over, he and Pant played two bad shots back-to-back which strengthened Windies' believes of making a match out of it.
Manish Pandey and Kohli made a small partnership after going back in the space of two overs but until then it was too easy for India with under run-a-ball stuff. And Washington Sundar hit the winning six in only the 18th over to get India over the line.
West Indies: 95/9 in 20 overs
India: 98/6 in 17.2 overs (won by 4 wickets)
