The South African pacer and one of the best Test bowler of this century, Dale Steyn, has retired from the red-ball format today with immediate effect.

The South African made his Test debut in 2004 alongside AB de Villiers, and picked up Michael Vaughan's wicket which is one of his memorable wickets.

He was then dropped from the Test side, but made an amazing comeback in this format in 2006 against New Zealand and picked up a five-wicket haul on his return. In three matches, he picked up 16 wickets.

Steyn in 2008, picked up 86 wickets in just 14 Test matches which earned him the ICC player of the year award in that year.  He was the fastest South African to 100 Test wickets. In his prime, he was a bowling monster who took wickets with his furious pace and swing.

He retires with 439 Test wickets from 93 Tests.
